Pokemon Go Plus... I finally have one!

Monday, July 31, 2017 0 Comments

Pokemon Go Plus is one of the hottest accessories you can get for Pokemon Go. It sold out on pre-order, it's still sold out now too! I managed to snag one from Amazon, £35. Compared to CEX who are almost charging £50 and I think (not 100% sure) Argos is selling it for close to £60...

Either way, that isn't the point. I got one!

The device is quite large on my wrist, but I honestly don't care. I wore the Plus on the inside of my wrist for the first outing, because it was easier to press the button. I was holding the phone in the same hand I had the device on so I could see what spawned in.

The biggest issue with the Plus is the limited functions. You can only use a Pokeball, and you only get the one throw. If you don't catch, it flees. I plan on using the device as notifications for spawns, and also to hit stops and get distance on my eggs and buddy. I guess the good thing is how easy it was to connect it up to my phone, and you can switch it off. You can also use the game whilst it's connected.

Is £35 a bit expensive for a fancy looking notification system and pedometer? Yes. Do I care? Hell no. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a Pokemon trainer. In fact, I wanted to be the best... like no one ever was.

I don't even care how bad this photo is. I was rocking my Pokemon Trainer PJs and my Plus.

I'll let you know how I get on with this device in a few weeks or so!

If you are interested, check out Trainer Tips' video about the device. This man is a fountain of knowledge about all things PoGo.

A few changes to the blog...

Sunday, July 30, 2017 0 Comments

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I've been M.I.A for a while. Since June.

I apologise for my absence, I've not been feeling the blogging love. I don't have that passion that I had at the start of this blog, but I am trying to get that back by changing things up a little bit.

I'm no longer focusing on just beauty. I'm writing about the things I love... video games, books, TV, and comic books. I want to share all the things about me with you guys, because it's better than hiding behind a personality that isn't really me.

I hope you all enjoy the new and improved blog.

Why I Love The Harry Potter Books

Thursday, June 29, 2017 0 Comments

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published twenty years ago. Can you believe that? I was five when the first book came out, and I read it around the thirteen year old mark. I'm not 100% sure on the exact age, but I know I wasn't any older than fifteen.

I'm a big reader, I can read 2-3 books a week, maybe more if I put my mind to it. I used to spend every day after school in the library and now, I seem to have enough books and e-books to have my own library.

I didn't exactly have a huge amount of friends in school, so I clung to the fantasy worlds within books. Harry Potter was one of those magical words which I craved to be real - I thought that in the Harry Potter world, I'd fit in. I'd be good at magic. I'd have decent grades! Harry Potter taught me it was okay to be different, it taught me that girls could be smart and save the day... and that love is the most powerful magic of all.

J.K. Rowling taught me about social injustice and issues that really did exist in the real world. It taught me that you can't blindly follow authority, the news or people in power - they can be corrupt and you do need to think for yourself. I learned how important good friends are and how sometimes, you can't accomplish everything alone. How fake news IS a thing. That research can save your life and that injustice operates within the system - house elves, muggle-borns, and half-bloods are often discriminated against.

Overall, I feel like Harry Potter made a huge difference to my life. It's one of the most beautiful worlds and I'm so glad I was able to grow up with Harry Potter.

I've got a couple questions for you all!

1) What is your favorite book?

2) Who is your favorite character?
3) Who is your most hated villain?
4) What house do you belong in?

Mine are:
1) Goblet of Fire.
2) Snape.
3) Umbridge.
4) Slytherin.

Celebrate National Selfie Day with The Selfie Bag! | AD*

Tuesday, June 20, 2017 0 Comments
It's National Selfie Day tomorrow... yup, that's a thing. And to celebrate, I was kindly sent a Selfie Bag by The Cotton Bag Co. We're a selfie mad nation, I'm certainly not afraid of a good selfie - even in public. Most people think selfie sticks are lame, I think they're awesome.
See, not afraid to bust out the selfie stick for a terribly framed, grumpy-faced photo of me in a dress. You're welcome internet.
The Cotton Bag Co were really kind and sent me over the black and gold print Selfie Bag. I'm super stoked they opted to send me the black one, I'm still not comfortable with colours in my wardrobe! The Selfie Bag is a custom designed bag. It's huge, like a Tardis and it's the ultimate selfie accessory.
There are two colour options, one is black and gold like mine and the other is white with a bunch of bright colours. These are super fashionable and perfect for summer.
I find that bags this size are perfect for day to day errands, for going to the beach, for picnics... it's just so versatile. It's only really suitable for days when it won't rain! Tote bags weren't invented for the finicky British weather. They are really big bags too, so you'll be able to throw a beach towel, a drink, your purse and more in there for a day out. The photo above is just my daily things I keep in there, and there is still a lot of room.
The bags feature a large zip pocket for your phone, loose change, keys etc. It's great they've designed it so people don't loose things that usually get lost in such a big bag.
There is also a long pocket designed for your selfie stick. If you're a selfie stick lover like me, you'll be super excited! It could also be used for other long and thin objects but I'm yet to work out what.
There is one twist on these bags. It has another unique little feature. A built-in fold-out reflector sheet, to get the perfect profession selfie lighting... on the go.

I won't lie, this is cool but it's a tad confusing as it's sewn in... I haven't quite perfected how to get this to work, but as soon as I work it out I'll be sure to post a behind the scenes photo of me using it!

You also get a little brochure too, it's an "Ultimate Guide on How to Bag Yourself the Perfect Selfie". I won't lie, the pun in the title had me giggling for a little while. You get loads of selfie tips, along with info from two top bloggers and the queen of selfies Kim K! It has info on how to take selfies that boost confidence, how to upload selfies to Instagram with all the Do's and Dont's. It's perfect if you're a selfie addict like me, striving to get the perfect pic for Insta.

The bag is available over at The Cotton Bag Co and costs £10.00. If you're a selfie lover or you need a summer tote, I'd recommend this one. It's super sturdy and holds a lot of stuff. Trust me, I used it when I went shopping today!

Embrace the selfie tomorrow and share your best selfies on Instagram with the #nationalselfieday. Just try not to look as grumpy as me! (It was hot and bright, that's my excuse!)

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, let me know your thoughts on this super awesome product!

Thank you to the Cotton Bag Co for sending me this item.

Alice in Wonderland Palette | Review

Monday, June 19, 2017 0 Comments

I am 100 percent mad at myself for not sharing this palette with you sooner. I got it about... a few months ago in the Boots sale and it's just so damn pretty.

The palette itself is by a brand called Mad Beauty and originally cost £7.99 from Boots. I picked it up in the sale for £3! Total bargain. Here is my verdict on this insanely beautiful palette...

Packaging:

This packaging has the full on wow factor with its design. It features classic Disney Alice on the cover in a kaleidoscope pattern. It's one of the most beautiful palettes I own. The packaging itself is standard cardboard and it has a magnetic closure which is a bonus on any palette. Nothing is worse than having a palette without a magnetic closure in your makeup bag because it might open and get damaged!

Inside there is no mirror, I'm not too fussed as I never use makeup mirrors. Instead, you are treated to a stunning gold silhouette of Alice with the quote "Curiouser and curiouser". You also get two double-ended makeup sponge applicators.

Shades:

In this palette, you get 6 eyeshadows and a highlighter. You have 3 matte shades, 2 shimmers, and one that is a hybrid of the two. (I can't tell if it's matte or shimmer!)

Shade 1 is the hybrid matte/shimmer shade. It's a very pale golden shade with a bit of shimmer, it'd be great as a base or even as a brown bone highlight.

Shade 2 is a shimmer shade. It's the most stunning golden shade that reflects a tad bronze in the light.

Shade 3 is a matte shade. It's a light taupe-y brown which would be a good transition shade.

Shade 4 is a matte shade. It's light brown and would look great in the crease and outer corner of your eye.

Shade 5 is a shimmer shade again. It's a woody brown shade with shimmer within.

Shade 6 is a matte shade. It's a dark brown-black shade which is perfect for the outer corner.

Shade 7 is the highlighter shade. It's a light golden colour which I thought was a tad bright for a highlighter, but once you blend it in it looks so nice. It kind of gives you a summer glow and would look good as a shadow too.

Texture:

This isn't going to be as good as something from Urban Decay or MAC but for the price, I'm super happy at the texture. There is a bit of fallout, but nothing you can't brush away easily. I do find with cheaper shadows you have to be careful with blending them out completely but you can build these shades up well, especially the shimmer shades.

Verdict:

Overall, I am in love with this palette. Even at the full price, I would have purchased simply for the cuteness and the fact it's Disney. I did find myself reaching for this palette to create a smokey glam eye, but lately, I've only reached for it for the shimmer shades.

If you can get hold of this, I'm not sure if it's sold out now, but I'd recommend. It looks great on my vanity and it's great to travel with.

What Disney movie would you want to be made into a palette? I'd want Nightmare Before Christmas!

Warm Nectarines | Summer Recipe Idea

Monday, June 12, 2017 0 Comments

Hey, everyone! I love nectarines, and I found a recipe only a while ago and I've been loving it ever since. It's one of those warming recipes that is so full of flavor, it's hard not to fall in love with it. It's also super easy and it takes about 2 minutes cooking time...

All you need are nectarines, butter/margarine, brown sugar and raisins if you like them. You can easily remove the butter/margarine and the sugar and maybe add in some honey or something. I like the sweetness that the margarine, sugar and the nectarines juice create. It's like syrup.

Step One:

Cut and de-stone (is that the correct term?) the nectarines, then cut them into either slices or chunks. I prefer chunks and add into a microwavable bowl.

Step Two:

Add in a small teaspoon or two of margarine or butter along with a sprinkle of sugar. Mix everything together, don't worry if you don't mix it too well. It all melts anyway.

Step Three:

Add a handful or two of raisins, or whatever else you want to put in. The best thing about this recipe is you can easily add in a lot of things and make it your own. The original recipe I found didn't have raisins - but it goes so well.

Step Four:

Put the bowl into the microwave for around 1 minute, I usually do 1 minute so I can mix it all together again and make sure it's all melting. You can then put it back in for another 1 minute or 30 seconds, it'll be down to your microwave. You don't want to cook them, you just want to warm it.

Step Five:

Eat!

---

I have never written a recipe before. I posted a photo of my bowl on Instagram and asked if people wanted me to share it, everyone seems really into the idea! Sooo, here it is. I've got a pretty awesome cookie recipe if anyone wants to see that in a post...

Let me know in the comments what you think and if you want to see more recipes from me in the future!

My Tattoos: What They Mean.

Sunday, June 11, 2017 0 Comments

I have a lot of people ask me questions about my tattoos. How many do I have? What do they mean? Did they hurt? Do I want more? Do I regret them? ect. All those questions people tend to ask. So, I decided to write a little blog post about them!

How many tattoos do I have?

I have four tattoos and I have 5 piercings too. (I get asked about them too, I thought I'd throw them in this post!) I have tattoos on both insides of my wrists, my left ankle and behind my right ear. My piercings are; snakebites, septum, nose, and ears.

Did they hurt?

Yes! Of course, they did. It's a needle piercing your skin repeatedly and very fast. Everyone has various pain levels, and tattoos/piercings will hurt more or less depending on where they are. My most painful tattoo was my ankle and my most painful piercing was my septum - just because of the locations.

Do I want more?

I really do. I want a sleeve tattoo, but I honestly don't know what my final design will be. I'm so indecisive, especially as it's a large tattoo. I'm also not sure it would look right and I definately don't have the funds.

Do I regret them?

Not at all, my four tattoos have very personal meanings to me. And at the end of the day, my piercings are small holes that will heal up if I take them out!

What do they mean?

From the top left;

Ankh behind my right ear.

I've always loved Ankhs, I find them to be a beautiful symbol with a wonderful meaning. It's the Egyptian hieroglyphic character which means eternal life. It's known as a key of life. I grew up with a lot of Egyptian stuff in my life. Either from watching TV shows, books, pictures - whatever. My mum loves Egypt, so the tattoo reminds me of her. The tattoo wasn't that painful, I fell asleep whilst the did it.

(Ignore how bad it looks! The ink never fully took so I need to get it touched up, but I've not been able to afford it.)

Casper on my left ankle.

This was my first tattoo. I got it done in memory of our Springer Spaniel who I'd named Casper. I had it done a year after he died. It hurt, a lot because it's on my ankle but it was an important tattoo. The film Casper is one of my favorite movies, hence why he was named after the ghost. I love it, but because it's on my ankle and I don't often show off my legs, I tend to forget it is even there!

Aegishjalmur Viking sigil.

I got both of my Viking sigils done at the same time, I adore everything about Vikings and their culture. I got Aegishjalmur done because it's protection/irresistibility in battle. I got it when I first started to struggle with depression, and it was kind of my own way of protecting myself. It's hard to explain, but it means a lot to me.

Vegvisir Viking sigil.

This one is Vegvisir, it's a runic compass which they would carve on the ships to prevent them getting lost. Again, it was done with depression in mind. It's to stop me getting lost in amongst all of my depression. The only problem with Vegvisir is that the tattooist has flipped it, so it's mirrored. It doesn't bother me that much. I didn't find either wrist tattoos to be painful. So many people think my wrist tattoos are snowflakes! They really aren't. I hate winter...

So, there you have it! A little post all about my tattoos, it's not that interesting but hopefully, it's something some of you might find interesting.

Do you have any tattoos and piercings?

Love,

Nyxie Rose ❤️
